Laboratory Technician (Foundry)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician based at our Duport Tipton site reporting into the Group Metallurgist.  The successful applicant will assist with the collection, testing and recording of metal samples collected at regular specified times from the production areas of the foundry.

The successful candidate will demonstrate drive and enthusiasm, ensuring the highest standards of quality whilst achieving deadlines required.  A positive and flexible attitude is an absolute must, overtime and change toworking hours at short notice to accommodate business needs may be requested.

Your bit…

  • Collect metal samples and carry out routine metal quality tests, record the results in accordance with the company quality control procedures.
  • Notify the Group Metallurgist or the Foundry Manager immediately of any adverse results from the metal tests, so that remedial action can be taken.
  • Cast test bars and arrange with external laboratories for testing.
  • Carry out Brinell hardness tests and record the results in accordance with the company quality procedures.
  • Carry out microstructural analysis to determine the metal structure and report to the Metallurgist or the foundry manager, record the information in the laboratory records.
  • Work strictly in accordance with instructions from the Group Metallurgist or Foundry Manager, to ensure that laboratory support activities satisfy the daily production requirements.
  • Report any equipment damage or malfunctions to the supervisor or Foundry Manager.

What you need to do it…

  • Previous practical Lab Experiencewithin a Foundry setting would be advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of specification results delivered.
  • Attention to detail
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Have good timekeeping / attendance
  • Remain calm and work well under pressure
