Maintenance and Engineering Manager - Foundry

Thomas Dudley Ltd has an outstanding reputation for product innovation and excellent customer service delivery.   At an exciting time in the Company’s 100 year history we’re currently recruiting for an experienced, highly driven Maintenance and Engineering Manager for the Foundry Division of the Group reporting directly to the Foundry Director.

The purpose of the role is to manage all mechanical and electrical maintenance personnel, development of all production plant and ancillary equipment, buildings and all main Foundry site services.

The successful role holder will champion and lead on all continued development and implementation of preventive maintenance systems and the maintenance of all statutory and company records relating to the Foundry site, services, plant and equipment, including health & safety and environmental.

Your bit… 

  • Ensure that the production plants are satisfactorily maintained, to ensure continuous production at the most economical cost
  • Liaise with the Operations Director and production personnel regarding plant stoppages for maintenance purposes.
  • Attend the daily production meetings with the foundry production personnel
  • Investigate and correct symptoms of potential faults/defects in plant, services or buildings.
  • Responsible for the design and execution of maintenance programs / TPM / AM and permit to work systems
  • Plan and co-ordinate the daily workload for maintenance personnel with the relevant supervisors
  • Implementing preventative maintenance programs
  • Managing expenditure and budgets in line with company policy
  • Control all aspects of labour relations with the mechanical maintenance and electrical personnel, including recruitment, training and development of labour and implementation of the company disciplinary procedures
  • Direct and support with the day to day running of the department/division. Identify and support training and development needs. Undertake regular 1:1’s/ PDR’s
  • Liaise with the Quality Manager on all aspects relating to the compliance of maintenance services within the Company’s ISO 9001:2015 and ISO14001:2015quality systems requirements
  • Managing Statutory Inspections of Fire, COSHH, LOLER PSSR and other periodic regulatory inspections.
  • Responsible for the quality of all maintenance work carried out throughout the company, including work carried out by sub-contractors
  • Ensure that all personnel within the department comply with the requirements of health and safety procedures and ensure that they are equipped with the required safety equipment, are trained in its use and that the equipment is properly maintained
  • Define contract terms and obtain and select tenders for contracted maintenance functions within the authorised financial limit and in conjunction with the Operations Director for items exceeding this limit
  • Authorise the purchase of spares, ancillary equipment and consumables for use by the maintenance department within the authorised financial limit to ensure that stocks of spares are maintained to avoid delays in dealing with breakdowns/ researching for new equipment
  • Negotiate regular contracted plant services and liaise with and monitor the activities of service engineers.

What You Need To Do It… 

  • Minimum 3-5 years management experience within a similar heavy manufacturing setting company / minimum HND qualification.
  • A strong leader / people manager with a proven track record of developing and leading a team of Engineers
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs delivering against set KPI’s
  • Knowledge and experience of Health & Safety practices at management level
  • Proven experience of implementing 5S principles and LEAN manufacturing techniques
  • Health & Safety Qualification - NEBOSH / IOSH would be desirable
  • Knowledge of IPPC requirements would be desirable
  • First rate communication skills with the ability to influence and build strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Continuously strive to achieve results
  • Confident, highly organised with excellent problem solving capability using various problem solving techniques
  • Experience of managing large projects simultaneously to multiple deadlines
