Pattern Shop Chargehand - Foundry

Thomas Dudley Foundry Limited has a great opportunity for a talented individual to join our pattern shop producing Foundry tooling.

We are looking for an experienced patternmaker/toolmaker to work within our expanding team to help produce patterns and core boxes and carry out pattern modifications using traditional methods. The role holds supervisory responsibility within the department and the requirement to assist with the day to day running of the pattern shop.  

Your bit ……….

  • Operate and maintain our range of manual machines.
  • Supervise all aspects of work for the team, providing guidance to maintain safe working practices and environment
  • Help plan / organise the work schedule to be carried out in line with work instructions
  • Brief team on correct ways of working and encourage participation during briefings
  • Undertake bench work and maintenance of patterns using traditional methods
  • Have a knowledge of Foundry methods and runner systems
  • Provide creativity and innovative ideas to improve processes and methods
  • Maintain supporting documentation to ensure accurate integration with other departments within the company
  • Support all departmental requirements throughout the foundry business
  • Report on a daily basis to departmental manager and directors at board level as required.
  • To act on behalf of the supervisor when they are not available
  • To assist with training and development of new starters / apprentice’s including checking and sign off of their work
  • Ensure trainees are personally supervised on the shop floor

What you need to do it ……….

  • Previous experience within a heavy industrial pattern shop environment using a range of machines and tools – within a Foundry setting would be advantageous
  • Previous supervisory experience in a similar role is essential
  • Drive and ambition
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Confidence and enthusiasm
  • The ability to work individually or within a team environment
