Waterfit: New Product Development Engineer

Waterfit Limited, a member of the Thomas Dudley Group of companies, designs and manufactures a wide range of pipe connection products that help to distribute fresh water safely and reliably throughout water networks both here in the UK and abroad.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a passionate New Product Development Engineer to join the in-house product development team. Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of our product development programme, including designing & implementing new innovative products, improving and optimising existing products, evolving the department’s processes and procedures, contributing to our general product strategy, and much more.

To ensure that projects are completed within fixed deadlines you must be able to plan ahead, keeping sight of the bigger picture, whilst also being meticulous with an attention to detail that ensures work of the highest quality. You must be good at problem solving with a pragmatic approach that quickly turns concepts into real products.

Your bit …

New Product Development: identify market trends and customer needs through research and customer liaison; produce concepts and evaluate their feasibility with models and mock-ups; evaluate the ROI of potential products; develop full 3D CAD models and refine using FEA & CFD; liaise with suppliers and the shop floor to optimise manufacturability; validate designs with prototypes and testing: and produce 2D drawings for manufacturing & QA.

Product testing: Plan, co-ordinate and carry out product testing to evaluate performance against the relevant standards, and manage the process of external accreditation through third party organisations such as WRAS.

Project Planning: plan and manage product development timescales for multiple products with external suppliers, internal manufacturing teams and other essential resources available within the Thomas Dudley Group.Communicate development progress to management teams and wider non-technical audiences

Administrative functions: create and maintain bills of materials; produce product specifications and technical data sheets; organise approvals documentation for external certification bodies; generate documentation for directive or legislative requirements; monitor compliance withgroup processes and procedures.

What You Need To Do It…

  • Mechanical/Design degree qualified or equivalent preferred
  • A self-starter with the ability to work under his or her own directive, well organised and able to follow through to project completion
  • Ability to multi task across a wide range of projects
  • Skilled and resourceful problem solver
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence and the ability to work well and under pressure
  • Meticulous approach to all tasks with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to produce technical reports to a high level from both a content and presentation perspective
  • A willingness to roll your sleeves up and muck in
