Our commitment to the environment

At Thomas Dudley Limited we strive to be eco-friendly - from the design of innovative, water-saving products to investment in technology to reduce emissions. With this in mind, and to underline our long-term commitment to greener manufacturing, we are pleased to announce our new Dudley Envirofacturing initiative. Manufacturing in the UK not only provides our customers with a fast, efficient service, but also helps to reduce the carbon footprint of transport from overseas. We recycle waste plastic created during production, convert scrap iron into value added products and reuse waste paper for packing purposes, and are proud to have attained BS EN ISO 14001, which is the recognised standard for environmental management systems. Our Envirofacturing policy highlights these and a host of other positive changes we have made to lessen our impact on the environment. Naturally, as with our catalogues, the policy is printed on recycled paper!

We are delighted to announce that our market-leading Vantage and our new Miniflo concealed cistern have been included in the Water Efficient Product Labelling Scheme. The government approved scheme is run by the Bathroom Manufacturers Association and has been developed to identify bathroom products that save water. With water conservation in mind, both the Vantage and the Miniflo deliver 6 litre full and 4 litre reduced flushing, providing an eco-friendly solution for most concealed applications. In addition, the Miniflo can be quickly converted to give a full flush of 4 litres and a reduced flush of just 2.6 litres.

At the recent IWEX exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham, the Thomas Dudley Group showcased a vast range of products, reinforcing us as the leading castings, gunmetal and brass water fittings supplier. Thomas Dudley Limited’s display of surface boxes, linear gratings, lifting tools and extension spindles received much interest, partly due to rapidly increasing prices of imported iron castings from China. Waterfit Limited exhibited meter boxes, metering solutions and gunmetal fittings, and Beta Ballvalves Limited showed ballvalves, gatevalves, standpipes, drain rods and brass fittings. We would like to thank all our customers for visiting our stand and helping us to make the exhibition such a success.

Our Turbo 88 Duoflush syphon goes from strength to strength, and its water-saving potential has been confirmed by a major independent trial by South West Water. In their recent Water Efficiency Trial, the Turbo 88 proved to be the most effective long-term water saver of all the devices used. Against traditional displacement devices such as bags and bricks that actually wasted water, the Turbo 88 performed strongly and delivered savings of around 10 percent which, according to the report, would continue to be maintained. As research indicates that flushing the toilet is responsible for around 30 percent of all water used in the home, we are delighted by this latest endorsement of the benefits of the Turbo 88.

Our foundry division is set for the future with the introduction of a new dry bag filter plant, which extracts emissions from the cupolas when iron is being melted. This enables us to meet the new legal emissions requirement which comes into force in 2010, and is 25 times more effective than traditional methods of extraction. This significant investment demonstrates the commitment we have to the long term future of our foundry.

At KBB in March 2008, we will be exhibiting a range of exciting new products on our main stand – number D44. In addition, plumbing accessories from Thomas Dudley, Masefield-Epson and Beta Ballvalves will be displayed on our stand PH15 in the Plumbing and Heating event.

The market leading Vantage concealed cistern can now be supplied with our new Dio small dualflush pneumatic button and push-fit flushbend. Coming soon, the Dudley Panfan® extracts odours directly from the WC pan bowl to leave bathrooms beautifully fresh.
