£5000 donation helps get people with sight loss cooking.
The Beacon Centre has received a £5,000 donation to help people with sight loss to regain their confidence in the kitchen.
The charity, which supports people with a range of eye conditions and other health issues, received the generous funding from local manufacturing firm Thomas Dudley.
The donation will be used to help people with sight loss regain some of the skills they may have lost in the kitchen with specialist equipment such as talking scales and liquid level indicators which help people to cook, bake or even make a drink independently.
It will also enable the charity to put on activity sessions where people can try and recreate some of their favourite recipes and even see if they can learn how to cook something new.
Beacon Centre Lifestyle Manager Becky Green said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at Thomas Dudley for their incredibly generous donation.
“Many of our members tell us that one of the things they really miss is cooking but sight loss doesn’t have to stop you from doing anything you enjoy and we hope that with some encouragement from our expert staff these sessions will help people to regain their independence in the kitchen.”
