Michele Bickerton, People & Development Director.
As part of the Enterprise Advisor Team for the DAT (Dudley Academies Trust), it was really great to be able to visit Beacon Hill Academy earlier this week.
During lockdown I did a virtual employability session with the students from Beacon Hill.
This session talked about the life cycle of an employee, from applying for a role to starting, training and becoming an integrated part of a business, which could be Thomas Dudley or another business.
My visit this week was to present a certificate and vouchers to the three students who answered correctly, questions I asked at the end of the virtual session.
The pandemic has halted the face to face on site sessions we used to have at Thomas Dudley, as well as the work experience and educational visits. However, we have continued to contribute with virtual support and I am very pleased to say, we are opening our doors again in September to Careers in the Class Room.
From September 2021 to March 2022, we will have over 1000 year seven students onsite from the four DAT schools. They will have a talk about Thomas Dudley, a tour of the plastics and foundry and information on a vast number of different roles required to run the business. The aim is to link the world of work with the classroom and open up the student’s minds to what is available to them and potentially what subjects they will need to reach that goal.
On top of these visits we also support a number of other schools and establishments with educational visits.
We would love to see more females moving into engineering and again this is an opportunity to discuss the fantastic career opportunities available.
